Adina, Andrew & baby Aidan
For those of you who haven't met us yet, we are Adina Hildebrandt, Andrew Haigh and son Aidan, new owners of Salt Spring Books. We are excited to be new residents of Salt Spring and wish to thank all our customers for being so welcoming and understanding during our first few months. We moved to Salt Spring because of its wonderful vitality, both in people and nature.
Although we understand that logging has to continue to be a major component of the BC economy, Salt Spring is just too small to have large clearcuts.
We know that logging has been part of island life since Salt Spring was settled but in a privileged country like Canada, in a small special place like Salt Spring, we should be setting an example of sustainable living for the world to follow.
A large number of island residents depend on the tourism industry for their living. We hope, for our son's sake, that Texada, the government and the people of Salt Spring can work out a reasonable compromise that will allow limited sustainable logging, give Texada a return on their investment and protect beautiful Salt Spring for future generations." |
